It has been revealed that Len’s 1999 hit ‘Steal My Sunshine’ will get a re-release to mark the track’s 15th anniversary (yes it really has been that long!) Independent label Alcopop! Records are the brains behind this genius move that’s going to introduce a summer classic to a whole new generation.

With that in mind, we here at Premiere One got to thinking about what other summer smashes deserve to take over our airwaves once again. You can check out the top 5 below.

5. Corrine Bailey Rae ‘Put Your Records On’

“Summer came like cinnamon so sweet”

From the minute those opening chords are heard everything turns into a hazy, sunshine bliss. Corrine captured the carelessness of summer with her soft vocals and sweet lyrics, not to mention that beautiful bicycle ride of a video.

4. Weezer  ‘Island In The Sun’

“We’ll run away together, we’ll spend some time together”

Much like ‘Put Your Records On’, ‘Island In The Sun’ has a simple repetitive chord structure that just washes any worries away. This track is essential for thoseFunny-picture-animal-summer-is-coming lazy summer days when you lay out in the sunshine daydreaming of life’s endless possibilities.

3. Madonna ‘Holiday’

“Just one day out of life. It would be, it would be so nice!”

All Madonna wanted us to do was take a holiday and celebrate. She explained the sheer brilliance of what a holiday is in her lyrics and urged us to come together and forget all about real life. This is one song that is sure to put a sunshine smile on anyone’s face.

2. The Underdog Project ‘Summer Jam’

“This ain’t nothing but a summer jam, we’re gonna party as much as we can.”

Sure to be played in every single nightclub the second it gets sunny outside ‘Summer Jam’ is the ultimate summer party song. Complete with whistles and a video full of bronzed beach babes nothing says summer like this one hit wonder.

1. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince ‘Summertime’

“Summertime, time to sit back and unwind.”

Before he became an A-List actor Will Smith did us all a great kindness and recorded this song that epitomizes the sunshine season. Perfect for a lazy day, a BBQ or a roadtrip, ‘Summertime’ ticks every single box on what a summer classic should be. After all, it’s not summer until the Fresh Prince says so!
