Kanye West Enlists Paul McCartney For His Most Touching Track Yet ‘Only One’

Kanye West has given us all a New Year treat with the release of his heartfelt collaboration with Paul McCartney. ‘Only One’ is Kanye’s most touching track yet. We’re used to Ye being personal in his music but this is just a little bit more special as it’s sang from the perspective of West’s mother Donda who passed away in 2007.

Donda tells Ye how proud she is of him. It’s so beautifully written with lyrics like “I talked to God about you, he said he sent you an angel/ And look at all that he gave you/ You asked for one and you got two” and the empowering lines “Hello my only one, just like the morning sun/ You’ll keep on rising til the sky knows your name/ Hello my only one, remember who you are/ No you’re not perfect but you’re not your mistakes.”

While there is an excess of autotune on the piece you do get used to it after a couple listens and realise the beauty of the whole thing. Donda is reasurring her son that he’s doing alright and asking him to make sure her Grandaughter knows who she is. If that doesn’t touch you or pull on the heartstrings in some way then you’re not listening right.

Macca’s presence is heard on the organ playing in the background and while it’s not the most inspiring sound it does add a lullaby feel to the whole proceeding making it all the more touching. There has been talk of Paul and Kanye working together for some time with Ty Dolla Sign revealing that the pair have also teamed up with Rihanna for another track that should be dropping soon.
