Little Mix Return With The Video For Their Fun New Single ‘Black Magic’

little-mix-word-up-2014-thatgrapejuice

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from X Factor winners Little Mix but now the girls are back with the video for their brand new single ‘Black Magic.’

The track is the first to be taken from their upcoming third studio album which the girls describe as “more fun” and with “a lot of banter on it.” We’re given a taster of just how fun it could be with the video for ‘Black Magic.’ Little Mix star as geeky students trying to get the attention of the popular guy at school but as he only has eyes for their blonde classmate, they take matters into their own hands and turn truly bewitching.

‘Black Magic’ is pure pop fun and puts Little Mix on top of the girlband game. We’re really looking forward to hearing their new album but until then you can check out the video for ‘Black Magic’ below.

Nathan Sykes Goes It Alone With His Debut Solo Single ‘Kiss Me Quick’

nathan-sykes-x-factor-2013-1382954694-large-article-0

Former The Wanted star Nathan Skyes has just released his debut solo single ‘Kiss Me Quick.’

The 21-year old has definitely left his boyband days behind him as he turns up the smooth and applies more slick to his sound. ‘Kiss Me Quick’ has a more jazzy pop sound to it that we haven’t heard from the singer before. Decked out in a suit and surrounded by drums and trumpets, Sykes is looking and sounding better than ever.

‘Kiss Me Quick’ is taken from Nathan’s debut album which he reveals has “A few different people that I write about. There’s a couple of breakups that I write about and a few almost romances and what-not. And there are a couple songs that talk about being in relationships as well, so it’s going to be quite funny when people start to listen to the lyrics.”

Check out the video for Nathan Syke’s debut release ‘Kiss Me Quick’ below.

We Take A Look Back At Some Of J-Lo’s Biggest Hits For This Week’s Throwback Thursday

jennifer-lopez-350x231

Jennifer Lopez has entertained us with her music and acting skills for almost two decades with countless hit singles and box office successes. Now, following in the footsteps of other female stars Celine Dion, Britney Spears and Mariah Carey, J-Lo is moving to the bright lights of Vegas to begin her very own residency at Planet Hollywood starting January 2016 for 20 shows. Lopez has expressed her excitement telling People magazine “I feel like I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life.”

To celebrate the good news from our favourite girl from Bronx we’re using this week’s Throwback Thursday to take a look at some of J-Lo’s biggest and best hits that she’s sure to whip out in Vegas.

1. Love Don’t Cost A Thing

Released in 2001, this track heard J-Lo singing about how low maintenance she really is. No point splashing the cash in front of Lopez, she is not that type of girl. Of course when you think of ‘Love Don’t Cost A Thing’ you think of the video. You know, where she starts off in a flash car with the best clothes and jewellery and ends up half naked in the ocean after throwing it all way. The message is there but really it’s all about how hot she looks. If you need to jog your memory here’s the video!

2. Play

Taken from her second studio album, ‘Play,’ while not one of her most successful, is one of Jen’s most fun tracks. Well before she bumped into Pitbull, Lopez was experimenting with her style and venturing into the more dance side of pop music which is where this song comes in. It may not be one of her most celebrated releases but ‘Play’ is well loved by J-Lovers all over and one that has to be included on your party playlist. If you’d forgotten about it, you’re welcome!

3. Jenny From The Block

Here is one of J-Lo’s best known tracks and for all the right reasons! Everything about ‘Jenny From The Block’ from the lyrics to the video provide every single thing any pop fan could want. A catchy chorus, personal verses and a paprazzi style video capturing private moments with then boyfriend Ben Afleck is all that was needed to ensure Jennifer Lopez cemented herself in the music world. Even after all these years we’re sure not to get fooled by rocks that she’s got!

4. Waiting For Tonight

Another one that often gets overlooked ‘Waiting For Tonight’ was taken from Jen’s debut album ‘On The 6’ to bring us right into the new millenium. The video is full of lasers and loads of dancing  as Lopez takes us right into the year 2000. Personally, it’s one of my favourite J-Lo tracks all down to those lyrics that I now love because of how packed with anticipation they are, but back in ’99, were just fun to sing along to as an 8 year old!

5. On The Floor

As much as I don’t like Jennifer’s Pitbull phase I can’t discount ‘On The Floor.’ Basically all about putting things “on the floor,” this is a pure, mindless club banger that brought J-Lo right up to date and kept her on our radios. Again, she’s looking pretty well in the video.

There are so many more Jennifer Lopez tracks we could have included on this list. She’s worked with the likes of Ja Rule, Fat Joe, LL Cool J, Iggy Azalea and even Nas. Since releasing ‘On The 6’ in 1999 to her latest album ‘A.K.A’ in 2014 we’ve followed J-Lo as she moved from the block right into the spotlight. With a career that’s seen her rack up number one hits, win awards for her acting, start the craze of celebrity perfumes and see out the powerhouse of American Idol, becoming Vegas’ latest resident is another achievement to add to a very long list.

Making Fit The New Sexy: Tips For A Healthy Lifestlye

katy_perry_roar

by Orla Prout

Orla: “Hello my name is Orla”.

All: “Hello Orla”.

Orla: “I’m 23 and it’s been 4 days since I last indulged, I know shouldn’t have but I just couldn’t resist it, I had to have… that one slice of bread”.

It sounds ridiculous, but sadly this is becoming a regular occurrence for some people trying to watch what they eat. Lately, a lot has been written in the media about body-shaming but it remains a serious problem. We’re bombarded by images in all mediums that reinforce certain stereotypes. Apparently, we all need to be size 8, toned, have big boobs, an ass, a tiny waist, perfect hair and if we’re not fortunate enough to be blessed with those genes we are made to feel inadequate. I’m a curvy woman: I have boobs, an ass, thighs and a tummy. I’m not perfect, nor do I aspire to be.  I’m not anorexic or obese I’m your average woman. I’m 23 years old, 5.4” and weigh just under 11 stone. I’m normally a size 10 /size 12 (let’s face it ladies we all know this depends on the shop) but because of media pressure it has taken me twenty three years (my entire life) to realise that it’s OK not to fit these stereotypes.

This pressure is evident in so many aspects of modern society where the bikini body is often praised above intelligence and being sexy is everything. A-listers are often placed on a pedestal solely for their looks. Rather than boasting about their  skills and intellect we’re just told about how these women lost weight and the wonders of fad dieting. Call me a cynic but a diet that consists of baby food or one that has you drinking lemon juice and cayenne pepper like Beyoncé can only be described as absurd. Such dieting is neither healthy nor sustainable. This is where there are blurred lines between losing weight and getting fit. They’re not the same.  Society needs to change its mind-frame. Let’s make getting healthy the new sexy.

h3kgoritzjw7t84qltcuIn order to make real changes and  become healthier it is important that it’s not considered a short-term diet, but rather a lifestyle change. So try the J-Lo diet for two weeks for upcoming wedding if you really feel you have to, but long term when you go back to eating normally again, well you may not like what the mirror tells you. Other crazes liking eating only organic foods, while it may healthy, is massively expensive and “diet” branded products have added ingredients to take out the extra fats. So well done if you can do it, but for most of us mere mortals by the time Christmas rolls around again we’ll all be back to our normal eating habits. So what’s the best thing to do?

Getting healthy itself is a contradictory issue.  Everything disputes each other: carbs are the devil and should be avoided but they’re also important to give energy. Dairy intake should be limited, yet vitamin D and calcium are essential. This is the way with all the food groups. Since Christmas I’ve been making a conscious effort to exercise more and eat better. This wasn’t just a resolution for the first week of January. I’ve been going to circuit training classes twice a week since the start of February. I’ve also reduced the amounts of bread, processed foods and cheese that I eat.  I’ve done this to tone up a bit and get fitter but more importantly I’m doing this for me.  I’m doing this to become healthier, to be able to actually enjoy exercise and for the first time in my life I’m doing this to be gain self-confidence with my body.

I’ve learned a lot in the last few months and getting healthier seems to be more complicated than it needs to be so here are some tips to get you started:

  • Eat slightly less and exercise slightly more. That’s the ultimate key. It’s not a secret.
  • Find an exercise you enjoy and try to do this 3 or 4 times a week.
  • Aim to drink 2 litres of water a day.
  • Keep going even when the going gets tough.
  • Go by your clothes, not by the weighing scale.
  • Don’t judge yourself by your imperfections, strive to embrace them.
  • Make the changes for yourself. Don’t do it to impress anyone else but yourself and you’ll be surprised with what you can achieve.
  • Don’t cut out anything completely. Trust me, as strong-willed as you think you are if you cut bread entirely that toast binge is right around the corner. Instead make small sustainable changes; from white bread to brown etc.
  • Have your cheat meal once a week and enjoy every minute of it! It means that you cut the cravings and is a great way to reward yourself for all that hard work!

So let’s make it that fit and healthy is the new black, so that toned and intelligent is what we aspire to be and let’s learn to actually love our bodies, “we are beautiful no matter what they say”

Tinashe Gets “All Hands On Deck” For Her Latest Video

tinashe-1

Tinashe is steadily climbing the R&B ranks since the release of her debut single ‘2 On’ and the success of her ‘Aquarius’ album. Now she’s ready to continue her quest to the top with her brand new single ‘All Hands On Deck.’

The song boasts a clicking beat and a super catchy chorus that’s bound to get stuck in your head whether you want it to or not. As for the video, the Ben Mor directed clip takes place in a shipping yard with Tinashe dancing around in some containers – standard really. Unsurprisingly, the dance moves are just as expressive as the lyrics with no sign of holding anything back.

Speaking about the creation of the video, Tinashe explained “I feel like when you put yourself in a borderline dangerous situation, exciting things can happen. That shock value is always what you want to go for in a memorable video. We were over 100 feet in the air with no safety harnesses. Literally, we could have died. It was a thrill to make and I’m so excited for my fans to see this video. We really stepped it up, visually.”

‘All Hands On Deck’ is the third single to be taken from ‘Aquarius’ following from the A$AP Rocky assisted ‘Pretend’ and comes as Tinashe prepares to go on the road with Rae Sremmurd, Dej Loaf and Meek Mill as support for Nicki Minaj on the US leg of ‘The Pinkprint’ tour.

Dear Meghan Trainor…An Open Letter In Response To ‘Dear Future Husband’

meghan-trainor-photoshoot-3

Dear Meghan Trainor,

Hope you’re keeping well. Congratulations on your success so far you definitely know how to write a catchy pop tune. Just writing because I feel like complaining about your music to friends isn’t fair, I may as well address my grievances to you.

It starts with your debut single. I didn’t really take to ‘All About That Bass’ because, well I don’t have much of a bass so I can’t “shake it shake it, like I’m supposed to do” and I guess that means guys won’t like me because “boys like a little more booty to hold at night” right? So I didn’t get the whole ’empowering’ message you meant to send with that song.

The real problem, and the reason this letter came about is because I just watched the video for your latest single ‘Dear Future Husband.’ I’d already heard this song because I had to review your album and when I first heard it I was horrified and now you’ve released a video for it. Curiosity got the better of me and I just had to watch it. Basically the song is an open letter to the man you’re going to marry listing the criteria he must meet in order to catch your interest. He should “take you on a date” and not forget “flowers every anniversary” because if he treats you right you’ll “be the perfect wife and buy groceries”. Of course even though you’ve bought the groceries and are the perfect wife you’ve “never learned to cook.” He has to treat you “like a lady” even when you’re “acting crazy” because “you’re never wrong” so “why disagree”? And of course, you say “Buy me a ring.”

meghan-trainor-scrubs-kitchen-floorI shouldn’t have to explain what’s wrong with every single lyric I just referenced there but clearly I have to because you don’t know. Being a perfect wife isn’t about buying groceries. Being the best wife you can be is about loving, respecting and supporting your partner. Also, why haven’t you learned to cook? It’s a great skill. Being able to feed oneself is a pretty important thing that everyone should know how to do even at the most basic level so never learning how to do that isn’t something to boast about. There’s too much wrong with the lyrics and the video for this song to justify it with a doo-wop beat and some cutesy 50s styling.

Now some comments underneath the Youtube clip are claiming this song is satirical. That’s the only way it makes sense but even if it is, it’s still offensive. Using satire, telling sexist jokes and passing flippant remarks are the problem. It keeps sexism alive and doesn’t allow for feminism to keep moving forward. By writing this I’m opening myself up to comments from people saying “Stop taking it so seriously” and “It’s just a song who cares?” but this needs to be spoken about. The way we listen to and accept lyrics of pop music needs to be spoken about and seriously reevaluated.

meghan_trainor_background_free_downloadPop music is mostly consumed by teenagers and young adults – these people are your target audience and you’re slapping them in the face with stereotypical gender roles that can be seriously damaging to those who don’t feel like they fit in to what you’re talking about. Maybe this is “just a pop song” but we need to realise that it might mean a lot more to the 13 year old who’s worried that she’ll never find someone to love her because she’s naturally thin or the 19 year old who knows how to cook and is ashamed to admit it because it’s not cool. Why can’t we just be the hell who we want without songs on the radio constantly telling us we need to shake our asses and have “all the right junk in all the right places.”

Society is continually becoming more accepting and progressive but there’s still a long way to go and the media has a huge part to play in this. We tend to internalize what we’re constantly exposed to and it’s only when you see young girls going around singing songs like “Dear Future Husband” or even the more sexually explicit ones like J-Lo’s “Booty” you really see what damage “just a pop song” can do. So Meghan, I urge you to be a part of the change. Tell us all about your talent, how much hard work goes into your job. Tell us that you’re confident and that you’re happy with how you look without excluding those who don’t look like you. Don’t change yourself, just change your lyrics.

Regards,

Michelle.

Rihanna To Star In “Unfiltered” Documentary

images

Rihanna is basically one of the worlds biggest stars and for anyone who didn’t know that (because they’ve been hiding under a rock since 2005) they’re about to find out why as she’s set to become the subject of a documentary all about her rise to fame and what life is like as a global icon.

Director Peter Berg, who worked with RiRi on ‘Battleship’ in 2012, has said that the documentary will provide an “unfiltered look into Rihanna’s life and how she’s ascended to become a global icon,” and that it will be “much more a character study than a music film.” Now I don’t know how much more “unfiltered” Rihanna can get but it’ll be interesting to find out.

Since the release of her debut single ‘Pon De Replay’ in 2005 Rihanna has cemented herself in music history with the release of 7 albums in just 10 years, countless number one hits and a few Grammy awards becoming a household name thanks to her catchy R&B and pop tunes. Right now we’re waiting on an 8th studio album from the Barbados native following the release of brand new single ‘FourFiveSeconds’ featuring Kanye West and Paul McCartney which you can check out below.

Let us know what you think of this upcoming documentary. Are you looking forward to it or do we already know enough?

Is Ciara’s Stunning New Single ‘I Bet’ Enough To Put Her Back On Top?

ciara-i-bet-music-video-still

Rewind to 2004 and Ciara was the hot new R&B singer everyone was talking about. ‘Goodies’ achieved worldwide recognition for the then 19-year old and a string of well received hits, award nominations and high profile collaborations with the likes of Missy Elliot and Ludacris followed. Now, the tide has turned and Ciara’s last couple of albums have seen a decline in the singer’s commercial success. Her third album, 2009’s ‘Fantasy Ride’ sold around a quarter of a million copies in the U.S compared to the 2.7 million of her debut album while her self-titled fifth album saw sales drop even further.

images

Ciara achieved worldwide success with her debut single

Now, after some time away to give birth to her first child, Ciara is back and ready to reclaim her position at the top. ‘I Bet’ is the latest release from the 29-year old and is possibly her most personal yet. You can’t talk about ‘I Bet’ without mentioning the breakdown in Ciara’s relationship to rapper Future who is clearly being addressed in the track. With lyrics like “I bet you start loving me, soon as I start loving someone else, somebody better than you” and “You actin’ like you upgrading me, I upgraded you. You and me Fashion Week at Paris, I put you on to that new” it’s obvious that CiCi’s moving on and ready to let the world know it.

The video for ‘I Bet’ has just been released and it shows Future exactly what he’s missing. Ciara looks flawless as she switches through various outfits showing off her enviable figure and some sexy dance moves. As beautifully shot as the video is, and as emotional and stunning as the track is, we can’t help but wonder is it enough? Can Ciara break the mainstream again and achieve the worldwide success of her earlier career? We’re not sure about that but she does have a space in the ever popular alt-R&B genre that seems to have appeared for artists like Jhene Aiko, Solange and Tinashe who have a sound that doesn’t quite fit into the conventional codes of R&B.

Ciara is definitely one of those singers whose talent is hugely underrated and hopefully the release of her sixth studio album ‘Jackie,’ on which ‘I Bet’ appears, will bring her back into the spotlight and remind the world just how great she is!

Check out the video for ‘I Bet’ below and let us know your thoughts on Ciara’s return in the comment section below.

Tom Hanks & Carly Rae Jepsen Star In This Week’s ‘Must Listen List’

tomcarly_1

Tom Hanks. Not your usual music video star. At least until now! The A-List actor has just landed himself a role in Carly Rae Jepsen’s video and it’s part of Premiere One PR’s ‘Must Listen List.’ Also joining the list this week are The Script and Maverick Sabre featuring Joey Bada$$. Don’t say we never spoil you!

1. Carly Rae Jepsen “I Really Like You”

Last time we heard from Carly Rae Jepsen she was asking us to call her, maybe? Well now she’s back with something else to tell us. “I Really Like You” is her brand new single and to make sure we get talking about it she’s only gone and enlisted Tom Hanks for the video! That’s right! Tom Hanks! The whole video is lip synced by Tom as he makes his way down the street meeting fans and eventually joining Jepsen for a bit of a dance. It’s really cute and full of the best kind of cheesy pop we all love.  P.S Watch out for Justin Bieber towards the end.

2. The Script ‘Man On A Wire’

The Script rise to dizzying new heights for their latest video ‘Man On A Wire.’ We see frontman Danny O’Donoghue as said man trying to reach his beloved while bandmates Glen and Mark perform on a rooftop and the side of a building. The single is taken from the Irish lads’ fourth studio album ‘No Sound Without Silence’ and hears the groups signature anthemic sound pouring out once again.

3. Maverick Sabre feat Joey Bada$$ ‘We Don’t Wanna Be’

Maverick Sabre and Joey Bada$$ have teamed up for a track which Sabre describes as “…an anti-oppression, anti-systematic song—a voice for what’s going on in our world in the current climate, which we are all living and dealing with daily.” The video, shot in black and white, shows clips of protests, marches and Joey and Maverick spitting their empowering lyrics about unity. It’s definitely one to watch!

Big Sean Enlists Kanye West + John Legend For The Inspirational ‘One Man Can Change The World’

Big Sean Ft. Kanye West & Roscoe Dash - Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay Lyrics

Big Sean is gearing up for the release of his new album ‘Dark Sky Paradise’ next week. To get us all ready for what is hopefully going to be his best collection yet, Sean has dropped ‘One Man Can Change The World.’

The track, which features on the upcoming album, is reflective and emotional as the Detroit native takes us back to tougher times before paying tribute to his grandmother. It’s a lovely piece which shows a more mature side to Sean who seems to be moving away from ‘Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay.’ G.O.O.D Music mates Kanye West and John Legend join Sean as they alternate singing the chorus over a stripped back piano production.

Ultimately, the song presents an inspiring message: keep working and never give up. If this is just a taster of what’s to come from ‘Dark Sky Paradise’ then we can’t wait to hear more!

Justin Bieber Gets Egged For His Upcoming Comedy Central Roast

download

Comedy Central have just released a promo clip for the upcoming roast of Justin Bieber. In the clip a shirtless Justin gets pelted with eggs – taste of his own medicine maybe?

It’s all in the name of good fun as JB put himself forward for a roasting in honour of his 21st birthday. Basically, he’s putting himself in the firing line for a barrage of puns, jokes and jibes at his past…..activities shall we say! It seems to be all part of Bieber’s redemption as he attempts to move past all of those mistakes which have somewhat tarnished his name and made everyone forget that he’s actually quite a talented musician.

Justin recently spoke to Ellen about redeeming his career through this upcoming roast saying “I think it’s cool to laugh at yourself — I’ve done some things that might not have been the greatest. I just want to be able to laugh about it, and just kind of own up to some of these things.”

At least he’s willing to move on and hopefully we’ll hear some actual music from the Biebs soon! In the meantime, the roast of Justin Bieber, hosted by Kevin Hart will air March 30th on Comedy Central.

Katy Perry Wins The Superbowl With Her Halftime Show

kp

The Superbowl has always been a big deal in the U.S but only lately has it come to our attention and that’s more to do with the famous halftime show than anything else. Admittedly, I know nothing about sport especially American football but I do get a little excited when I hear it’s Superbowl time once again.

Previous halftime performers include Beyoncé who caused a power outage, Justin Timberlake who exposed a bit too much of Janet Jackson and Madonna who’s special guests M.I.A and Nicki Minaj got her in trouble with censors. This year was Katy Perry’s turn and the California Gurl delivered! Joined by Lenny Kravitz and a genius breakdown with Missy Elliot, Perry provided another memorable Superbowl Halftime Show.

In just twelve short minutes Katy took us through her hits starting on a giant lion before turning the place into a giant chessboard and then a cute little beach complete with dancing sharks. Songs like ‘I Kissed A Girl,’ ‘Dark Horse,’ ‘Roar’ and ‘Firework’ left the audience cheering and screaming for more. She even managed four costume changes!! Mariah Carey better watch her back.

All in all, Katy Perry proved just why she’s at the top of the pop pedestal right now. Sometimes it’s easy to forget just how talented she is but if that ever happens again all we have to do is watch the video below and bask in Katy’s brilliance.

Tinie Tempah Turns It Up For His Latest Track ‘Flash’

2803

Tinie Tempah has just dropped the video for his latest release ‘Flash.’

The UK rapper has turned it up a couple notches as he lets us in on the lavish side of his life. Never one to say no to a party, Tinie takes us to the U.A.E to live it up on the beach, on a boat and in a fancy looking club with lots of bottles full of liquor worth more than what I get paid in a year!

It’s great to see Tinie Tempah’s career at such heights and we’re sure that ‘Flash’ is going to bring him even higher as it’s made for the club scene with worldwide appeal.

Check out ‘Flash’ below and let us know what you think of Tinie Tempah’s latest release.

Sia Comes Under Fire For ‘Elastic Heart’ Video Featuring Shia LaBeouf

140618171044-sia-beverly-hills-2014-story-top

Quickly becoming known for her artistic music videos Sia has just dropped the visuals for her latest single ‘Elastic Heart.’ Featuring actor Shia LaBeouf and Maddie Ziegler who starred in ‘Chandelier’ the clip shows the pair locked in a cage silently fighting each other through some mesmirising dance moves.

Since the video’s release Sia has had to come to her own defence following some people’s complaints of paedophilia. The singer has responded to the cries by tweeting “I anticipated some ‘pedophelia!!!’ Cries for this video. All I can say is Maddie and Shia are two of the only actors I felt could play” She then continued to explain herself by saying “I apologize to those who feel triggered by #ElasticHeart My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody.”

The video was made to depict the two conflicting sides of Sia’s personality as they fight each other with one eventually breaking free. It’s a pretty artistic video, something that viewers aren’t used to seeing from their pop artists these days. Perhaps the unknown is making people uncomfortable or perhaps we’re living in a world where you can’t do or say anything anymore without offending someone else. Either way it’s clear that Sia’s intentions were purely artistic and she created another captivating music video.

Check out ‘Elastic Heart’ below and let us know what you think of the controversial video in the comment section below.

Kanye West Enlists Paul McCartney For His Most Touching Track Yet ‘Only One’

download

Kanye West has given us all a New Year treat with the release of his heartfelt collaboration with Paul McCartney. ‘Only One’ is Kanye’s most touching track yet. We’re used to Ye being personal in his music but this is just a little bit more special as it’s sang from the perspective of West’s mother Donda who passed away in 2007.

Donda tells Ye how proud she is of him. It’s so beautifully written with lyrics like “I talked to God about you, he said he sent you an angel/ And look at all that he gave you/ You asked for one and you got two” and the empowering lines “Hello my only one, just like the morning sun/ You’ll keep on rising til the sky knows your name/ Hello my only one, remember who you are/ No you’re not perfect but you’re not your mistakes.”

While there is an excess of autotune on the piece you do get used to it after a couple listens and realise the beauty of the whole thing. Donda is reasurring her son that he’s doing alright and asking him to make sure her Grandaughter knows who she is. If that doesn’t touch you or pull on the heartstrings in some way then you’re not listening right.

Macca’s presence is heard on the organ playing in the background and while it’s not the most inspiring sound it does add a lullaby feel to the whole proceeding making it all the more touching. There has been talk of Paul and Kanye working together for some time with Ty Dolla Sign revealing that the pair have also teamed up with Rihanna for another track that should be dropping soon.

Check out ‘Only One’ below and let us know what you think of Ye’s subtle new sound in the comment section below.

Adele, Rihanna and Fergie: Our Top 5 Comeback Kids Of 2015

images

2014 provided us with some great music from Sam Smith’s delightful debut to Nicki Minaj’s iconic ‘Pink Print’ and as the new year starts we can’t help but wonder who will wow us in the coming months. We’ve put together a list of the top 5 artists we want to see back on top in 2015!

1. Rihanna

downloadThere was a time when Rihanna would gift us with a new album every year. It started to become a tradition but since the release of Unapologetic in 2012 RiRi has gone quiet on us. Of course the hardest working woman in pop needed some time off but there have been rumours and Instagram clips of the singer in the studio cooking up something special for her fans. Here’s hoping it’s all worth the wait and 2015 sees Rihanna’s return.

Adele_-_212. Adele

Following a hugely successful year in 2012 where she won countless Grammy’s and a huge fan following Adele took a step away from the limelight to become a mother and enjoy some time off. The 26 year old may only have two albums in her discography but she’s by far one of the most successful British singers of all time thanks to a little song called ‘Someone Like You.’ After her emotional Brit Awards performance of the track the world just couldn’t get enough of her. Now we’re all waiting for the follow-up which is rumoured to be happening this year. Expectations are high so no pressure girl!

download (1)3. Fergie

Our favourite Black Eyed Pea has relaunched her solo career with the release of her not so great comeback track ‘L.A Love (La La La).’ Sadly, the track didn’t capture many people’s attention but it was a valiant effort. Ferg showed off her vocal prowess back in 2006 when she went out alone on ‘The Dutchess’ giving us some pop classics with ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ and ‘London Bridge.’ We’re placing a lot of hope on this new album and looking forward to hearing what Ms.Fergie has in store for us this year.

Justin_Bieber_Journals4. Justin Bieber

It’s easy to forget that Justin Bieber is an actual singer what with the tumultuous couple of years he’s had – arrests, dangerous driving, breakups and drugs being linked to the Canadian star. But whatever may be happening in his personal life it’s his professional one we’re more interested in. For some reason his last effort ‘Journals’ didn’t quite reach the success it should have but the Biebs has hinted at new music for the new year so here’s hoping he pulls it together to show the world that there is some actual talent in there.

maxresdefault5. Kanye West

We never usually get time to miss Kanye West. Unlike the others in this list, West hasn’t been away from the music scene at all. It seems like he’s come straight from ‘Yeezus’ to his next project which is great news for every Kanye fan out there. There’s been talk from West’s camp of new music for a while now. West has worked with a lot of big names behind the scenes and is capable of pulling off any sound so this is another artist we’re building up expectations for!

Who are you looking forward to hearing more from in 2015? Let us know in the comment section below.

Kimye, Elevators And Comebacks: Premiere One PR’s 2014 Year In Review

Kim, Kanye, Khloe share wedding moments

It’s that time of the year again as every TV programme, radio show and website are taking a look at some of the most memorable moments from the past 12 months. As 2015 approaches we here at Premiere One PR have decided to join in the reminiscing and recap on some of our most popular posts and unforgettable moments of 2014.

1. Breaking The Internet

kim-kardashian-revista-paperThis year saw a lot of female celebrities baring all and showing off their best assets. Songs were released, videos were made and photoshoots dared to ‘Break The Internet’ all thanks to one piece of anatomy. Some bloggers and journalists have even named 2014 the ‘Year of the Booty’ and that’s all down to artists like J-Lo, Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj who released tracks in honour of their famous behinds. Then Kim Kardashian West came along and broke the internet with her butt bearing cover photo for Paper magazine. Talk of photoshop, instant memes and prayers for whoever had the job of oiling up the reality star abounded and made sure that Kim did exactly what she set out to do.

2. Gender Equality

050C000054229F066737B31EED06D755There was a lot of talk about feminism and gender equality this year following Emma Watson’s U.N speech. The actress dispelled some myths, educated a few people and inspired even more to pay attention to discrimination and start to make a change. Her speech is a must watch and one of my personal favourite moments of 2014 as it inspired me to write a response to Emma which was read by a lot more people than I expected. There’s still a long way to go in terms of gender equality but it’s an issue that has been hugely highlighted and one that will continue to change in the new year.

3. The Elevator Incident

UnknownNow this is one of those infamous moments that will never be forgotten in the world of entertainment. Solange, Jay Z, Beyoncé and that elevator. I probably don’t need to say anymore but just in case someone missed the whole incident Solange Knowles attacked her brother-in-law in an elevator following the Met Gala. TMZ got a hold of the security footage thanks to an ex-employee of the hotel who must have earned a hefty pay cheque for showing the world that the Carter/Knowles family isn’t so squeaky clean and picture perfect after all. They never explained what happened and probably never will but it didn’t stop us from speculating!

4. Comeback Kids

chris-brown-x-deluxe-edition-cover-500x5002014 was a great year for music as we were introduced to great new talent but while we welcomed in the new kids, some of our seasoned favourites arrived back on the scene to show them how it’s done. Gwen Stefani dropped a couple new tracks while Fergie showed us some ‘L.A Love.’ Cheryl Fernandez Versini came back with a brand new sound to become the first British female solo singer to achieve five number one singles. J-Lo revived her signature ‘Jenny From The Block’ sound and Nicki Minaj arrived with the album all her fans had been waiting for. The ultimate comeback kid of 2014 should have been Chris Brown. Following a tumultuous few years it finally seemed like Brown was ready to move on and become the artist he should be but somehow ‘X’ fell a little short. Here’s hoping 2015 is a year of more stellar comebacks.

5. Kimye

KimKanye4There’s no way you can possibly talk about the past twelve months without mentioning one of the most talked about couples. An Italian wedding, an Irish honeymoon, a controversial Vogue cover and a whole lot of selfies gave Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West the worldwide attention they always wanted. Kimye basically took over the internet in 2014 with fans and haters all over the world following their every move as Kanye embarked on his Yeezus tour and the proud parents gave their daughter North a first birthday party to remember….even though she probably won’t. Whether you like them or not it looks like Kimye are here to stay which is great really because it gives us something to write about!

We would like to wish all of our loyal readers a very Happy New Year and to everyone who has contributed to the site in the past year through guest blogs thank you very much! Here’s to a 2015 full of health, happiness, love and memorable moments! Happy New Year!!!

Nicki Minaj Exceeds All Expectations On ‘The Pink Print’ Album.

nicki-minaj1

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding Nicki Minaj’s latest album ‘The Pink Print.’ Minaj created most of that herself telling us it was going to be the album that other female rappers would look to for guidance and inspiration. But when Nicki dropped ‘Anaconda’ as a single from the LP we began to get a little nervous thinking it was going to be another ‘Pink Friday’ full of ‘Starships.’ Luckily, Nicki silenced all the doubters and haters to slay absolutely everything she’s ever done and create an album that’s going to stand the test of time. To call it one of the most iconic rap albums might be a bit premature but time will tell.

Fans were treated to a few singles before ‘The Pink Print’ dropped. ‘Pills N Potions’ got everyone talking as Nicki pared it all back and gave an emotional performance but that all changed once the second single ‘Anaconda’ was unleashed. A classic novelty single it got everyone else talking and certainly gained more attention for the rapper. Then the controversial, gossip silencing ‘Only’ was released with some help from Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown. What those three singles did was showcase the different sides to Nicki. She’s R&B, pop and hip hop all in one fearless product.

If 2013 is remembered for Beyoncé’s surprise album then 2014 should be remembered for ‘The Pink Print.’ Usually releases with such hype and expectations surrounding them don’t deliver (Katy Perry’s ‘Prism’ anyone?) But Nicki has more than delivered the goods here. Beginning with the most personal track she has ever created ‘All Things Go,’ Minaj shares past experiences of a baby, a proposal and the death of her cousin. The confessional song sets the tone for the rest of the LP and is followed by the vocally impressive ‘I Lied.’

The Queen of Rap slaying with Queen Bey

The Queen of Rap slaying with Queen Bey

There are so many tracks to talk about on ‘The Pink Print’ which is possibly the only flaw I can find with it – there’s just a few too many tracks. It could have done without the Ariana Grande assisted ‘Get On Your Knees’ and the forgetful ‘Favourite’ featuring Jeremih but it must have been hard to cut down on songs when the artist is as versatile and skilled as Ms. Nicki. Keeping to the featured tracks we’re once again treated to the genius pairing of Nicki and Bey as they team up for the fierce ‘Feeling Myself’ that’s going to be the new anthem for every ‘Flawless’ girl out there. Skylar Grey makes an appearance on the pop ballad ‘Bed of Lies’ while Meek Mill drops by a couple times on ‘Big Daddy’ and ‘Buy A Heart’ and Premiere One favourite Jessie Ware appears on ‘Crying Game.’

There’s the token dance floor anthem to keep fairweather fans happy with ‘The Night Is Still Young,’ the less flashy cousin of ‘Starships.’ Thankfully Minaj is established and finally able to release music that is totally true to herself and her talent. Track after track she proves she’s more than capable of standing next to the big boys. Like she says “Who had Kanye saying she a problem?” If you need proof of that just skip ahead to ‘Shangai.’

‘The Pink Print’ more than lives up to everything Nicki Minaj had been claiming it would be. It exceeds expectations and finally sees Minaj returning to her hip hop roots spitting lyrics like nobodies business. Any female rappers out there should be sitting at home studying this album and bowing down to the self professed Queen of Rap. Let us know what you think of ‘The Pink Print’ and check out the album’s latest single ‘Only’ below.

Sam Smith + Ed Sheeran Among Album Of The Year Grammy Nominees

mgid-uma-image-mtv

2014 has definitely been a big year for two of our favourite British male artists. Sam Smith completely took over our airwaves with his soulful diva ballads and Ed Sheeran made us fall even more in love with him as he got personal on his latest album. Both men released albums this year with Smith unveiling his debut ‘In The Lonely Hour’ and Sheeran giving us his second LP ‘X.’ The albums received huge acclaim from critics and fans all over the world and now they’ve been given one of the industry’s highest recognitions as Sam and Ed are in the running for the 2015 Album of the Year Grammy Award.

Not only that but Sam Smith has also been nominated in a couple of other categories including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for ‘Stay With Me,’ Best Pop Solo Performance and Best New Artist which sees him go head to head with the likes of Iggy Azalea and Bastille. It’s been a massive year for Smith as his career went global and a Grammy nod for Album of the Year is the perfect way to set it all off. As for Ed Sheeran, well he just wowed us all with the release of ‘X’ and a sold out tour that’s still going. Then he melted all of our hearts as he showed off his romantic side in the video for ‘Thinking Out Loud,’ a song he says that just fell out in the kitchen one day. His talent knows no ends and this nomination just goes to prove that.

Could Bey’s visual album clean up on the night?

But our British boys are facing some very stiff competition in the Grammy’s 2015 Album of the Year category. Beck is  recognised for ‘Morning Phase’ an LP that has received some serious praise for the singer and Pharrell Williams is also there for ‘Girl,’ the album that gave us all the phenomenon that was ‘Happy.’ Perhaps their toughest competition and the artist who is most likely to win the category is Beyoncé for her self titled visual album that basically slayed everything that any other artist has ever done. (Bit of a fan here!) Her surprise release stunned fans and her new sexy sound puzzled some but the collection showed every side of Bey from her Independent Woman roots to her newfound motherhood and wife status all the while remaining as free to be herself as possible. The visual album was a spot of genius as each track got its very own music video giving fans a complete experience that previous albums over the past few years had been lacking.

While I’m at the top of Beyoncé’s Beyhive as one of her biggest fans, she already has 17 Grammy Awards, 14 of them belonging to her solo career. Bey has also surpassed Dolly Parton as the most nominated female artist with an impressive total of 52 Grammy nominations. So with statistics like that it’s only fair that she stands back to let our boys through. Neither Ed nor Sam have ever won a Grammy so here’s hoping that 2015 will be the year they clean up and steal the awards right out from under Bey’s nose!

Tinder: Is It Really Love At First Swipe?

how-i-met-your-mother-series-finale-old-ted-570x294

“Kids I’m going to tell you an incredible story. The story of how I met your mother. You see kids back in 2014 everyone had a smart phone and an app called Tinder. When I scrolled through the people in my area there she was, the most beautiful woman I just couldn’t swipe by.”

Boy meets girl on tinder. The End? Let’s face it, it’s not exactly a traditional love story is it? It’s probably not going to sell romance novels or be the plot of the next chick-flick. But the match-making app Tinder is getting increasingly popular.

Those of you who know me will know I’m a firm believer in love and it’s possibilities. For those of you that don’t, well I’m not lying when I say I’m a hopeless romantic who can quote whole sections of the soppy parts of ‘Notting Hill’. I believe that the heartbreaks are necessary and the losers are supposed to treat you like crap so that when the good ones come along it makes sense that it never worked out with anyone before.

But what does love have to with Tinder I hear you ask….

That is where I get confused about the app .Being a romantic I think everyone needs some love in their lives no matter where it comes from, so whether you end up falling for the guy in the bar, or the girl on Tinder if it works out then you know I’m behind you. But that’s the catch. It seems from my experience that for the most part, guys using the app often just want that one thing. And us girls? Yes, we like our fun too but it seems that we’re looking for something more.

Would Allie and Noah have matched if Tinder was involved in 'The Notebook?'

Would Allie and Noah have matched if Tinder was involved in ‘The Notebook?’

These differences in expectations work both ways but this is where my hesitations start. I know I sound like a mammy but my main issue with an app like Tinder is catfishing. We’ve all seen the MTV show but how do you trust that the person you’re matched with is who they really are? The same goes for real life I guess but perhaps there’s a little more comfort in physically meeting the person.

It’s strange that I’m writing this as I can honestly hold my hand up and say that my name is Orla Prout and I’m a Tinder virgin. My only Tinder experience was in college last year, when procrastination set in and we “borrowed” our friend Ben’s phone and matched him with as many girls as possible. It was fun and we all laughed but I don’t have a profile and have never matched with anyone on the app. Since the origin of Tinder in 2012 I’ve been happily off the market but if I was single tomorrow would my slowness to embrace this technology mean a life time of watching chick flicks, surrounded only by feline friends?…Well, I hope not.

I’m not going to lie I have a fantastic boyfriend but there is a small part of me that’s vain enough to wonder if other people would find my picture attractive and if a successful algorithm would match me with someone I’d pick myself. That’s the main question does a computer know me better than myself? I don’t necessarily think so but the popularity of Tinder speaks for itself. I have several friends that regularly use the app and love it. They are fluent in the language of Tinder while I simply nod and smile as they talk about matches and swipes. But I will finish up this article with some advice about relationships that rings true for the technologically minded and the old fashioned ones like me. (Gentlemen I’m sorry but for the most part this is aimed at the ladies)

  • Don’t spend your time chasing a man, if a man is interested enough he will always find the time to talk to you and spend time with you.

  • Good relationships require lots of trust and support – communication is key

  • Don’t let your expectations be lowered because of past experiences.

  • The imperfections you see are what attracts other people

  • Don’t be taken for granted or mistreated in any way.

Bad Lyrics, Catchy Tunes…We Count Down Pop’s 5 Worst Lyrical Moments

5

What do Becky G, Pitbull, Nicki Minaj, Nelly and Ylvis all have in common? Some pretty dodgy lyrics! These days as long as there’s a catchy beat you can practically sing anything you want. With that in mind, we here at Premier One PR have decided to compile a list of the catchiest songs with the worst lyrics. You know the ones, they’re the songs you make fun of in front of your friends but find yourself singing when no one’s around!

Becky G – Shower

Lyric: “I’m dancing in the mirror, singing in the shower/ La la di, la la da, la la da”

No prizes will be given for the penmanship here, not with lines like “Baby you make me hot like an oven.” Whether you like it or not, it will be a song that is played over Christmas so whether you’ve had that shot, or need one to listen to the lyrics it’s a tune you’ll find yourself bopping along to.

Ylvis – What Does The Fox Say?

Lyric: “Dog goes woof, cat goes meow/ Bird goes tweet and mouse goes squeek./ What does the fox say?/ Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding”

Though not as popular as some of the other songs listed here, it’s still a catchy number with nonsensical lyrics. The most unsettling fact about this track is that it took more than five people to write it. Yes, you read that right! Who knows, maybe they’re all in playschool and really need to know these things.

Nicki Minaj – Starships

Lyric: “Jump in my hoopdey-hoopdey-hoop, I own that/ And I ain’t pay my rent this month, I owe that.”

In possibly one of her worst singles to date (even worse than ‘Anaconda’) Nicki Minaj created ‘Starships.’ The one that gets everyone out on the dancefloor and took over the summer of 2012 where you couldn’t suggest going to the beach without someone launching into “Lets go to the beach each…”

Nelly – Hey Porsche

Lyric: “Hey lil Porsche so right I had to try ya/ B-b-back it up, lets roll, roll, roll.”

Another song where the lyrics speak volumes. Nelly tried to relaunch his career last year but instead of being the rapper he is, he did a Flo Rida on it and went down the cringey pop/rap road. To this day we’re still not sure if he’s actually singing about a car or a woman? Those euphemisms are all over the place!

Pitbull feat Kesha – Timber

Lyric: “That’s the way we like to – what? Timber/ I’m slicker than an oil spill/ She say she won’t but I bet she will.”

Describing himself as an oil spill is pretty accurate for Pitbull, they’re annoying and most definitely a health and safety risk! But ‘Timber’ is a guaranteed floorfiller and even though I know people who really don’t like this, I for one head straight to the dance floor when I hear those first few beats.

So there you go, you don’t need the greatest lyrics of all time, you don’t need to make sense and you don’t even always need real words. A good pop song ultimately only needs one thing: a really catchy beat!

Beyoncé Gives Us A Glimpse Into Her World On ‘Beyoncé: Platinum Edition’

Beyonce

December 2013: Beyoncé surprised the whole world by dropping her self-titled visual album with absolutely no hype or marketing strategies.

November 2014: Beyoncé re-releases said album in a Platinum edition complete with 2 brand new tracks and 4 remixes.

So is there any point in checking out this platinum edition? Haven’t we heard it all already? And what’s the deal with her new video?

1416619039_beyonce_7_11_video_57

Bey lets loose with a hairdryer!

There definitely is a point to checking out this new collection. It’s more for fans than anything else and you can tell that by the new tracks and remixes that have been included. We may have heard it all last year but those 2 new songs ‘7/11’ and ‘Ring Off’ are well worth the listen. Plus Kanye West’s verse on the ‘Drunk In Love’ remix is pretty incredible. As for her new video, well that’s just an extra treat!

Bey dropped the homemade visuals for ‘7/11’ amidst some confusion from critics and fair-weather fans. What she’s done is carefully constructed a candid home video of herself dancing in her underwear and letting loose with some friends. She’s spent so long making statements and putting important messages into her music that it’s actually quite refreshing as a fan to hear her let loose. Sure, a lot of people are saying the sound doesn’t suit her but who cares? This is a woman who’s worked so hard at being so perfect at every waking hour that it’s nice to see her being silly and just a bit more ordinary. The track makes no sense and wouldn’t be lost on a Miley Cyrus or Rihanna album. Maybe that’s who she’s hinting at when she sings “Mad cos I’m so fresh, fresher than you”? It really doesn’t matter at this stage in her career and I think Beyoncé is well aware of that.

image-2-for-editorial-pics-18-sept-2011-gallery-830903233

Bey pays tribute to her Mama

‘Ring Off’ is the second new track to feature on this extended album and it is by far Bey’s most personal yet. Beginning with the word “Mama” it’s clear that she’s singing it to Tina Knowles. As the song moves on we hear the singer addressing her parents divorce and putting her mother right back on top. It’s a really beautiful song about putting yourself first and empowering yourself after a break up that I’m sure Tina must have been so proud to hear. When the track title was released speculation mounted about the thought that it could be about Bey’s own marriage to Jay Z following divorce rumours and that elevator incident but it’s nothing like that. It’s a tribute to her mother and a great new entry to Bey’s back catalogue.

As for the remixes, we’ve all heard the ‘Flawless’ remix with Nicki Minaj that is so fierce it’s impossible but we’re also being treated to some cameos from Kanye and Pharrell as well as the sunshiney Mr.Vegas remix of ‘Standing In The Sun.’ Pharrell jumps on ‘Blow’ singing the second verse and leaving the track a bit wanting but Kanye saves the day with his opening verse on ‘Drunk In Love.’ Some of Ye’s best verses come in the form of remixes or collaborations and this one is no different. It just makes me want to see another video for the track, this time with added Kimye!

There’s never any harm in some new Beyoncé music so this Platinum edition of her self-titled visual album is more than welcome. It finally feels like we’re getting a real glimpse at what this woman is all about. She’s fresh! Fresher than you!

Throwback Thursday….Lady Gaga’s ‘The Fame Monster’ Turns 5 Years Old

images

For this week’s Throwback Thursday we’ve decided to take a look at Lady Gaga’s iconic ‘The Fame Monster’ album which turns 5 years old this week.

Back in 2009, Lady Gaga was at the very height of her career. Her debut album ‘The Fame’ went to number one in 9 countries across the world including the UK and earned Mother Monster a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic album. The LP fused pop, dance and electronic genres together to simultaneously bring us back in time and to the future! With ‘The Fame’ receiving huge critical acclaim and earning Gaga a massive following of Little Monsters it was time for her to release an extended version. Enter ‘The Fame Monster.’

VMA's 2009

VMA’s 2009

We were getting used to Gaga’s crazy antics as she showed up to awards ceremony’s and interviews dressed in bubbles or  head-to-toe red lace – we were yet to be graced with that meat dress – but many people were wondering who this woman was and why she was so popular all of a sudden. Maybe she was just in the right place at the right time but Lady Gaga really ruled the pop world in 2009 so a re-release of ‘The Fame’ was a very clever move. ‘The Fame Monster’ included all the hits from her debut release, ‘Just Dance,’ ‘Paparrazi,’ ‘LoveGame’ and ‘Poker Face’ with some added new extras.

Possibly the most well-known track from ‘The Fame Monster’ and one of Gaga’s most memorable singles is ‘Bad Romance.’ The song saw Gaga’s fashion style evolving with those lethal high heels and began the transformation of pop star to wannabe artist which perhaps resulted in her ultimate downfall. Whatever her career status may be now, 5 years ago she couldn’t get any bigger – see Beyoncé. The Queen of R&B gave a musical hand to then Queen of Pop on ‘Telephone.’ A crazy Thelma & Louise style video followed complete with Diet Coke can hair curlers and glasses made of cigarettes as the pair knocked off Bey’s no-good man and drove into the sunset together to be continued. (We’re still waiting for part 2!)

‘The Fame Monster’ isn’t just about those huge hits though, it’s also all about Gaga’s eclectic and ever evolving music style. She went a bit country, took us down a soulful road and scared us a little bit with some vicious lyrics. Every extra track on ‘The Fame Monster’ added something new and innovative to Gaga’s already impressive back catalogue. Each of the 8 new tracks were said to represent the different monsters Gaga encountered while she was on tour including ‘Fear of Loneliness Monster’ and ‘Fear of Alcohol Monster.’ Tracks like ‘Teeth,’ ‘Speechless’ and ‘So Happy I Could Die’ propelled the singer to new heights proving that she was so much more than a disco-stick weilding, paparazzi loving pop star.

In fact, five years on ‘The Fame Monster’ still sounds just as fresh and exciting as it did back in 2009. Nothing has ever sounded like it before or since and I don’t think anyone would even dare try. Lady Gaga created a moment in pop history with ‘The Fame’ and ‘The Fame Monster’ that is going to be referenced and remembered for years to come.

So put your paws up and throwback to ‘Bad Romance’ below.
